Aerosol Characterisation Experiment - 2

The ACE 2 experiment was conducted in Tenerife during the Summer of 1997.  Its main objective was to characterize the regional radiative forcing by atmospheric aerosols.   I was involved in the LAGRANGIAN consortium deployed to explore the evolution of continental aerosol into marine aerosol as an air mass advected out over the North Atlantic.

Aerosol measurements on the UK Meteorological Office's Meteorological Research Flight C-130 Hercules were undertaken during one marine and two polluted Lagrangian studies. Total aerosol concentrations were measured using a TSI ultra-fine condensation particle counter whilst sub-micron aerosol size distributions were taken using a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS).  Aerosol chemical composition was derived using a new fast-response, high temperature volatility conditioner coupled to an Optical Particle Counter.
