AGU requires
that the following criteria be met before any manuscript can be published. AGU
will no longer process papers submitted in an incorrect format.
Double
space (24 point line spaced) all material, including title page (affiliations),
abstract, text, reference section, table title and information, and list of
figure legends. Double space throughout the review/revision and copy-editing
processes.
Paginate
sequentially in upper right corner, beginning with the page on which your
title and affiliation appear as page 1. Number all pages.
Manuscript
(and pagination) order is the following: title page, author(s) name and address
(with ZIP code), abstract, introduction, text, appendix (if any), acknowledgments,
references, figure legends and tables (followed by figures themselves).
Begin
appendix (if any), acknowledgments, references, tables, and legends on separate
pages.
Supply
an abstract (less than or equal to 250 words), figure legends, table titles,
typed double space.
Supply
a short form of your manuscript title (to be used as a running title).
Submit
one set of clear sharp glossy prints or original drawings of figures for the
printer. Figure copy 8 1/2" x 11" is preferred due to processing requirements.
Figures
are not suitable for reproduction if the lettering is below the 1 1/2 mm minimum
and therefore will disappear when the figure itself is reduced to fit the
journal page size; use mechanical lettering device for lettering on figures;
check for any misspellings; provide a scale; metric requirement has not been
adhered to.
Each
figure must be cited in text and must have a figure legend. Figure callouts
must be in numerical order within the text.
Your
reference section should conform to the journal style indicated.
Cite
references in text by name(s) of author(s) and year of publication only (i.e.
not by numbers).
Personal
communications and unpublished data or reports should not be included in the
reference list; they should be shown parenthetically in text.
Alphabetize
reference list by last name of principal authors.
In references,
include titles of articles, letters, reports, and books.
Check
text citations against reference section for spelling, dates, and omissions.
Cite
or delete bibliographic references not referred to in text.
In mathematical
material, all characters available on a standard "typewriter" must be typewritten
in equations as well as in text. Any symbol that must be written by hand must
be identified in a marginal note the first time it appears in the paper. You
will be charged for all corrections in galley proof for material that was
handwritten in the manuscript. Symbols which look alike, such as the lower-case
letter "ell" and the number "1" and the upper-case letter "oh" and the numeral
"zero" which are identical on most typewriters, should be identified in marginal
notes the first time they occur.
Conform
to standards for mathematical material explained in Information for Contributors.
Delete
vertical lines from tables.
Footnotes
must be incorporated into the text.
Convert
to metric system throughout text, figures, and tables.
Include
ZIP codes in addresses.
Verify
that all portions of typescript are legible.
